Περίληψη / Resume / Résumé
A new study of the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia at the terrace called Marmaria in Delphi is part of a more global reflection on the additional installations of a Panhellenic sanctuary – the sanctuary of Pythian Apollo – and on the surroundings of a city managing a large sanctuary: the two complexes of the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia and the Gymnasium, oriented towards the Pleistos valley, constitute an essential anchor in the Delphic topography, both for the great sanctuary of Apollo and for the city, its limits and its defensive system in a recent period. The aim of the programme is to consider the remains and objects in their complete context, in order to reconstruct the way in which this site on the south-eastern outskirts of the city of Delphi was used and to characterise its roles, functions and operations.
The re-examination of the remains of the buildings has led us to some conclusions concerning their date and purpose, which will be discussed in this presentation.
